Hiding In Plain Sight?
The eclipse of 2017
It feels like only yesterday that we travelled to Tennessee to witness the amazing total eclipse. Prior to coming away on holiday, we'd scoured the map to find a suitable location to park up in readiness. We were in luck..
The (perhaps aptly named) Sunset Rock, east of Sparta on US70 near Bon Air, looked as though it would fit the bill nicely. We arrived at the 'Rock the night before in our RV, keeping our fingers crossed. There were already two or three vehicles and a handful of people parked in the designated places, so we parked up a little further down the lay-by and went to bed. It turned out that our early arrival paid off.
When we peered out through the gap in the curtains the following morning, we were completely surrounded by cars, trucks, motorbikes, and all the good folk who brought them.

The atmosphere around was almost festive, everyone waiting in eager anticipation.
We weren't disappointed.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this selection of photos from the day.

Great story Ralph and that Totality picture is incredible. Thanks for sharing 👏
What a fabulous experience Ralph. The only solar eclipse I've seen was back in 1999 when I was working - we all decamped out into the car park as the darkness fell, traffic and the birds spookily fell quiet. Minutes later is was like the dawn chorus all over again.
