Looking back, this was a fair undertaking for us at the time, travelling to the continent and covering the large distances we did, it being my first time ever driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. Adding to the challenge was the fact that we went in our ageing Toyota Spacecruiser which already had 150k miles on the clock. Our two boys were still quite young at the time, both of their ages in single figures, so long drives presented a challenge to them, too. My German-born Mum joined us on our escapade, visiting family was a big part of the reason for our holiday. Our itinerary took us initially through Holland en route to Germany and briefly Poland and the Czech Republic, then on to Denmark.
The images I present here (and in subsequent parts) were taken with my Bronica ETRSi on Fuji Velvia 50 and are mostly scenic. The rather more convenient size of 35mm loaded into compact cameras tended to be reserved more for used more for the equally (and one might argue, more) important casual and family/people oriented pics.
I hope you enjoy these images and the subsequent ones to follow in due course.
I give a big thank you to my wife, who patiently entertained our boys at these locations, while their Dad faffed around with his clunky old camera and tripod.
